Good Music Media Enters Deal with World Publications to Support Launch of New Music Magazine

Successful Founding Team of Vibe Sees New Market Opportunity in “Music for Grown-ups”

New York, NY – Good Music Media is announcing it has reached an agreement with World Publications to provide a wide range of general business and specialized publishing services to support the launch of a new magazine focusing on “music for grown-ups.” The magazine, with a title to be announced soon, is set to debut in September 2003.

Good Music Media’s magazine will target adults over age 30, a major music audience without a publication dedicated specifically to it. That demographic accounts for 56 percent of music buying in the United States, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. The magazine will be tailored to those music lovers by featuring a wide variety of musical genres and multiple generations of artists, all highlighting what it calls “music built to last.”

“There is no one out there speaking to a more mature, more sophisticated music audience in a voice that they can trust,” said Alan Light, Editor-in-Chief of Good Music Media. “We believe that with this magazine, we can create a brand that will unite a community that until now has had to do a lot of work on its own to navigate the landscape of popular music with no guidance – and has still driven such projects as Norah Jones’ album and the ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou’ soundtrack to multimillion copy sales.”

The founders of Good Music Media have extensive experience in building a successful music magazine. Editor-in-Chief Light, Publisher and CEO John Rollins and COO Dana Sacher all played key roles in creating Vibe, the country’s leading urban music and lifestyle magazine and winner of the 2002 National Magazine Award for General Excellence. The same team also managed Spin, acquired by Vibe’s parent company in 1997. Rollins was Vibe’s founding Publisher, responsible for generating more than 1,000 pages of advertising annually within four years of its 1993 launch. Light rose to Editor-in-Chief at Vibe in 1994, helping drive circulation to 600,000 during his tenure, and later had the same title at Spin. Sacher was founding Circulation Director of Vibe, overseeing its growth in circulation to more than 700,000, and became Vice President and General Manager for both Vibe and Spin. All three left Vibe/Spin Ventures LLC in 2001 to form Good Music Media.

“With World Publications’ support, Good Music Media gains access to the resources and expertise of a successful entrepreneurial major-magazine publisher,” Rollins said. “Terry Snow, World’s founder and CEO, has built an extensive portfolio of special-interest magazines aimed at an affluent, discriminating, mature demographic. This agreement allows us to concentrate on creating the editorial voice of our magazine, to sell the concept to advertisers and to commit to our launch issue this fall.”

All editorial, sales and marketing staff of the new magazine will be located at World’s New York office. Back-office operations will be supported by World’s corporate office in Winter Park, Florida.

“We believe Good Music Media has identified a timely publishing opportunity. I’m especially impressed by the expertise, track record and commitment of the founding team,” said Snow. “Our company understands and thrives in the very unique world of specialized publishing, and we can use our knowledge to benefit this new venture.”
